Statement

I make abstract paintings that respond to how I see and experience places. In particular I am interested in the qualities of light, colour and space.  The material qualities of paint, gestural markmaking and creating an aesthetic resolution of these elements is also important.

I work from sketchbook studies and drawings; the paintings are reworked and layered seeking a visual equivalent rather than a representation.

Biography

I now live on the Cap Sizun peninsula in South Finistère with my wife Serena. We are renovating an old corps de ferme that will eventually offer eco friendly holiday accommodation, a studio and a gallery.

I continue to paint using a studio in Pont Croix kindly provided by the local forgeron (blacksmith) and will be exhibiting this year in France and England.
